“E-commerce” or electronic commerce is the method of buying and selling goods or services online. To have a successful commerce business you need to have a professional and viewer friendly website. Back in the day, you would have to log into the computer through America Online to view a website through the old dial up internet.
These days you can access the farthest corners of the World Wide Web in the palm of your hand. You can sell products, services, or even publish blogs to your online viewers. People will now use their smart phones more regularly to make purchases, or even sell goods and services online. So having a website that delivers a clear message, smooth screen flow, and presents a professional image is an important tool if you want people to make use of your electronic store.
If a website looks too complicated or confusing, you will lose your viewers interest quickly. Imagine having a website design that would peak the interest of a corporate executive, yet be simple enough to navigated by a 5 year old. I say this because my nephew is quite impressive at watching his YouTube videos about animals or dinosaurs. It’s because once he learned how to use the search feature, he can watch all the videos he wants to.
The great thing about having a website is that it’s your place, your electronic store, and you can design it your way. It’s almost like having real estate on the World Wide Web. You want to direct viewers or traffic to your web domain so that you can sell products, services, or deliver your message through writings or blogs.
Another tool that you will often see with e-commerce business use is social media. LinkedIn, YouTube, twitter, Facebook, are all examples of websites that house social interactions for business or personal reasons. By utilizing social media platforms you can direct the social media traffic to your website.
This is also why branding is important. A brand is not just your business logo, it’s your identity and the message people will receive when they see the image that represents your business. A brand is a name, a trademark, or a symbol that differentiates a product, service, or manufacturer from others in the marketplace.
